Deindustrialisation, state responses and social democracy
In the face of de-industrialization, caused by both technology and global integration, many countries introduced compensatory social policies, some expanding access to early retirement, others more active labour market policies, and yet others expanding education and skills. This seminar examines whether these policy choices shaped the long-run support for social democratic parties and populist challengers.
