Join us for our IndOx Annual Event 2023: An evening lecture and Q&A with Nidhi Razdan (Journalist and Former NDTV Anchor) on ‘Press Freedom in India’. Followed by a reception.

India’s press- is it really free? As India falls to its lowest ever ranking on the world press freedom index (161 out of 180), what is the state of press freedom in the world’s largest democracy? In recent years there has been a growing, disturbing targeting of journalists through police cases and even anti-terror laws which can put them behind bars for years without trial. News organisations critical of the government have faced raids and tax cases at the hands of authorities. Much of the mainstream press has fawning coverage of the establishment. The corporate ownership of the media has only deepened the crisis. The implications of this go far beyond the borders of India.

Please note this event is only open to members of the University of Oxford and its Colleges.
