This event is free and open to all Oxford and Oxford Brookes students.
Smallpox, one of the world’s deadliest diseases, was eradicated in 1980. Since then, a number of attempts to eradicated diseases have been launched. At the same time, new threats constantly spring up. What can we do to safeguard ourselves against future diseases and biological threats? How will climate change affect disease ecology? In this talk, David Heymann attempts to sketch out the future of our response to global health.
David Heymann is a professor of Infectious Disease Epidemiology at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and the head of the Centre on Global Health Security at Chatham House, London. Previously, David had a long career at the World Health Organisation. While working there, he co-ordinated the global response to SARS and was the director-general’s personal representative for polio eradication.
The event will be followed by a Q&A. We hope to see you there!
