SKOPE webinar: The Global Recognition Convention – a new paradigm for higher education access and mobility
On 5 March 2023, the first worldwide UN treaty on higher education became a binding legal instrument, when the Global Convention on the Recognition of Qualifications concerning Higher Education entered into force. The Global Convention aims to facilitate interregional mobility of higher education students, teachers and researchers, responding to the growth in mobility during the past two decades, while also paving the way for more inclusive mobility and improving access to higher education worldwide. This webinar will explore expectations of the impact of the Convention and provides an opportunity to ask questions.
Andreas Snildal is Senior Programme Officer at the Section of Higher Education at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris, where he is responsible for matters related to academic mobility and serves as secretary to the Global Recognition Convention. He holds a PhD from the University of Oslo, where he also has worked as a researcher and lecturer. Before joining UNESCO, Mr. Snildal worked for the Norwegian Agency for Quality in Education (NOKUT) on issues relating to quality assurance and recognition of higher education qualifications. Currently, Mr Snildal also serves as Co-Secretary to the Council of Europe/UNESCO Convention on the Recognition of Qualifications concerning Higher Education in the European Region (Lisbon Convention), drawing on his rich expertise and experience in the field of mobility and recognition.
