A Political Administration: Identity and Belonging in the Juncker Commission

Seamus Montgomery is an anthropologist of Europe with a particular interest in EU institutions, especially the European Commission and its relationship to pan-European consciousness and belonging. His fieldwork to date has been in Brussels (2014-2016). A DPhil candidate in the Institute of Social and Cultural Anthropology (ISCA) and the Institute for Science, Innovation and Society (InSIS) at the University of Oxford, his doctoral work focuses on European identity and bureaucracy among EU civil servants, and the relationship between notions of European culture and social integration on the continent. He holds an MA in Social Sciences from the University of Chicago and BAs in English, Anthropology, and the Comparative History of Ideas from the University of Washington.
