Energy Seminar - week 2: MSc Energy Systems Alumni | Presentations | Zie Chua (Aurora Energy Research) and Eflamm Gueguen (ENGIE) speaking in person
Zie Chua (Aurora Energy Research) and Eflamm Gueguen (ENGIE) will speak in person at the ECI, Atmosphere Room, Oxford University Centre for the Environment, South Parks Road, Oxford. If you wish to join online please register (link below) to automatically receive the TEAMS webinar link.
Zie Chua will speak about ‘Behavioral Heterogeneity in the EV and V2G Markets’.
Summary: The lack of clear insights into vehicle consumer demand precludes effective public policies and disincentivises industry investments into electrification. By recognising the behavioural heterogeneity of consumers, our work applies Innovation Diffusion Theory (IDT) to provide bottom-up insights into the vehicle market, enabling effective and targeted policies.
Zie Chua works in Aurora Energy Research’s (UK) power market modelling team, specialising in South-East Europe and the Baltics region. He studied Theoretical Physics at Imperial College London, before graduating with a Distinction from Oxford University’s MSc in Energy Systems programme. Zie’s previous experience includes the Energy Ministry in Malaysia, and he has also worked in the pharmaceutical and banking industries.

Eflamm Gueguen will speak about ‘Renewable Microgrids’.
Summary: Renewable microgrids could answer the energy trilemma currently faced by industries. This talk presents an optimal sizing methodology for heat and power microgrids, composed of various renewable technologies. The financial, environmental and resiliency potential of the solution was tested on a real-life dataset of industrial park loads in Europe.
Eflamm Gueguen is a Consultant in Strategy at ENGIE (French international utility company), where he works on transitioning the company towards sustainable growth. He has a general engineering and corporate finance background and is a Kellogg College and a MSc Energy Systems Alumni.
He has specialised in the decentralisation of the energy system, from renewable microgrids for rural areas electrification in developing countries, to renewable heat and power solutions for industrial parks in Europe. His work has received multiple awards from the Garp Research Institute and Veolia. He recently published and presented his work on decentralised solutions for industrial parks at the 2022 Summer Study of the European Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ECEEE), with more publications coming soon.
