Kathleen James-Chakraborty (UCD), ‘The Mariendom: A Place of Modern Pilgrimage’

Kathleen James-Chakraborty is professor of art history at University College Dublin. At present she is also an Ailsa Mellon Bruce Senior Fellow at the Center for Advanced Study in the Visual Arts at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. A historian of modern architecture, her books include Architecture since 1400 (Minnesota, 2014) and Modernism as Memory: Building Identity in the Federal Republic of Germany (Minnesota, 2018). In 2021 she was awarded a European Research Council Advanced Grant for her project Expanding Agency: Women, Race, and the Global Dissemination of Modern Architecture.

Karl Kinsella (Aberdeen), ‘The Beginning of Architectural Drawing in the Religious Imagination’

Karl Kinsella is lecturer of medieval art and architecture at the University of Aberdeen. He was previously Junior Research Fellow of architectural history at Lincoln College, Oxford and lecturer at the University of York. He was awarded the Hawksmoor medal for his work on medieval architectural drawing. His book, God’s Own Language: Architectural Drawing in the Twelfth Century will be published by MIT Press in February 2023.
