Can transparency and accountability empower communities to improve their health care?

For the last six years the Transparency for Development (T4D) project has sought to understand the role of transparency and accountability programmes in empowering communities to improve their health care – as well as how and why we see such mixed evidence when these programmes are implemented in the real world. The unique mixed methods research project combined two large-scale randomised controlled trials in Indonesia and Tanzania with extensive qualitative interviews, observations and ethnographic studies, as well as a second phase including three smaller studies in Ghana, Malawi and Sierra Leone.

Join four scholars and practitioners from the T4D team as they share results – including the good, the bad and the unclear – from this one-of-a-kind research project about these popular approaches to citizen engagement and participation, and to discuss what is needed next in this important field.
