Join us in exploring how interdisciplinary research brings together two important fields (gene studies and artificial intelligence – AI) and how it can be useful in discovering new therapies.
After a brief introduction about human genes, we will first explore how they are used to discover new therapies and the challenges surrounding this process. Then we introduce the basics of AI and machine-learning and how these tools can support discovering new therapies. We will then have a joint conclusion from the two expertise on how genetics and machine learning overlap, and how these fields might best be merged. Finally, we will have an open discussion and Q&A session to hear views from participants with their diverse range of backgrounds.

Amr is an Associate Senior Tutor at the Department who has worked on gene therapy since his DPhil at Oxford. He then continued his research at Oxford exploring novel genetic methods for discovery of new therapies. Amr has taught for the Department since 2012.
