Reforming Capitalism, Going Digital and Going Green: Does Japan Hold Answers?
——-What is the event?——-
Join us for the Nissan Institute’s newest conference on the 17th and 18th of February at the Säid Business School. The event brings together great minds from across business, government, and academia to discuss what we can learn from Japan to help us navigate our future. Two days of free talks, networking opportunities (and even free Sake and Sushi!).
——What is the conference about?——-
Upgrading to ‘Society 5.0’ and developing a ‘new form of capitalism’, Japan is quietly building a new economy. Find out what this means for us from experts and join our networking sessions over sushi and sake.
Speakers include: government advisors…business leaders… ambassadors…The Spectator’s business editor…and acclaimed professors from Cambridge, Oxford, Osaka, Kyoto, Paris, & Munich.
Calls for the reform of capitalism have grown louder in recent years. In 2021 Japan’s incoming Prime Minister Kishida Fumio called for Japan to adopt a ‘new form of capitalism’ with four priority areas: people; science, technology and innovation; startups; and digital and green transformation. Investors reacted swiftly to the word ‘distribution’ and the value of shares on the Tokyo Stock Exchange plunged by almost 7 percent. Japan’s quest to reform capitalism and to create a more sustainable ‘growth model,’ and the ensuing tensions, have echoes in other economies, including the UK.
