Online Abuse and How to Fight Back
In-person and online. Sign up on Eventbrite for the Zoom link.
Nina Jankowicz coined the term “gendered and sexualised disinformation” in 2017. In 2020, she led a pioneering research study looking at its effects in the U.S. election. In 2022, she herself became a target of a widespread online hate campaign that used the very tactics she had studied. Drawing from this research and her book How to Be a Woman Online, Jankowicz will demonstrate how malign actors use gendered and sexualised disinformation to silence women and people of marginalised identities and provide tips for holding one’s digital ground and fighting back against online harassment.
