Abstract:
Branded as the world’s first space gynaecologist, Varsha will be discussing the approaches she has taken to implementing an academic approach to female astronaut health. Her experiences in personalising healthcare for astronauts has facilitated her route to clinical innovation in women’s health here on Earth, particularly related to researching heavy menstrual bleeding.

Bio:
Dr Varsha Jain is currently a clinical lecturer at the Centre for Reproductive Health, University of Edinburgh. Her current portfolio of research focuses on personalising care for women with abnormal uterine bleeding (AUB; heavy periods). Varsha recently completed a PhD from the University of Edinburgh, where she will continue developing academic independence with a programme of research focused on precision medicine approaches for chronic gynaecological complaints. Varsha’s previous research has focused on personalising female astronaut health, predominantly related to menstrual cycle control. Alongside her academic pursuits, Varsha is a clinical doctor training in obstetrics and gynaecology in Edinburgh, UK.
