Innovations in financing conservation

Adam will present the current state of conservation finance before providing examples of new and innovative ways of channelling private finance towards conservation in the tropics that he has worked on. This will include examples from Guatemala, Mato Grosso, Brazil and Rwanda.

Adam Gibbon is an alumni from the ECM course of 2007/8. Since completing his MSc, he has worked to design and implement models for mitigating climate change and avoiding deforestation in the tropics in both the public and private sector. At Rainforest Alliance, he was the manager of the Climate Program designing, implementing and auditing projects on climate smart agriculture and REDD+. After Rainforest Alliance, Adam joined PwC’s Climate Change and Sustainability team, consulting for donor and recipient governments on matters related to climate change and land use financing. Since 2013 Adam has been Chief Technical Officer and Investment Director at Althelia, a private impact investment platform that invests in projects that produce sustainable commodities and environmental services whilst conserving biodiversity and creating sustainable livelihoods.
