Joint Seminar with the Maison Française d’Oxford and the Oxford Centre for the History of Science, Medicine, and Technology: AFHOPOS Michaelmas 2020 - The Early Modern Comet

The Anglo-French Seminar in the History of Philosophy of Science (AFHOPOS) takes place once per term and each time brings together English and French historians of philosophy of science to discuss common area of enquiry. AFHOPOS is organized in collaboration between the Maison Française d’Oxford (MFO) and the Oxford Centre for the History of Science, Medicine, and Technology (OCHSMT).
The topic of the 2020 Michaelmas ATHOPOS seminar is ‘The Early Modern Comet’ and features two presentations
Professor Robert Iliffe (Linacre College, Oxford), ‘The role of cometary theory in the development of Newton’s cosmology’
Professor Sophie Roux (ENS Paris, and Fowler Hamilton Visiting Research Fellow, Christ Church, Oxford): ‘The Two Comets of 1664-1665: A Dispersive Prism for French Natural Philosophy Principles’
