How an Embassy contributes to Science Diplomacy
Join us for an exclusive event featuring Minh-Hà Pham, the current Counsellor for Science and Technology at the French Embassy in the UK. With a background as the former Director of the INRA laboratory, Minh-Hà’s research spans over 20 years, focusing on honeybee behaviours, plant-bee interactions, and risk assessment of transgenic plants.
In her career, Minh-Hà transitioned to global management, serving as Deputy Director of the CNRS European and International Relations Department and holding key roles at ParisTech. As the Counsellor for Science and Technology at the French Embassy in Washington D.C. from 2013 to 2018, she played a pivotal role in shaping Franco-American scientific relations.
Returning to France in 2018, Minh-Hà was elected Vice-President for International Relations at University Paris Sciences et Lettres (PSL) and contributed to its recognition as an Excellence University. Now at the French Embassy in the UK, she actively promotes the French Higher Education, Research, and Innovation (HERI) system, fostering bilateral cooperation amid changing political dynamics.
In the context of the extensive French diplomatic network, which includes only a few embassies with a science and technology section, the HERI department plays a vital role in the French-UK relations by facilitating bilateral cooperation through funding schemes and events with UK. These initiatives unfold against the backdrop of a changing political context. Recent developments indicate positive growth in Franco-British HERI relations at both bilateral and European levels.
