The College is delighted to welcome renowned poetry anthologists, Allie Esiri and William Sieghart for a Provost’s Talk on Wednesday 1 February 2023 at 5.45pm.
Allie Esiri is the host of live poetry events at London’s National Theatre, Bridge Theatre, and at major international literary festivals.
Allie’s bestselling anthologies Shakespeare for Every Day of the Year, A Poem for Every Day of the Year, A Poem for Every Night of the Year and A Poet for Every Day of the Year have lit an explosion of interest in poetry, are regularly chosen for National Poetry Day and have been picked as best books of the year in the Observer, New Statesman and The Times. Stand out live performances at theatres, festivals and on audio with poems read by some of our best-known and best-loved actors – from Helena Bonham Carter to Dominic West – are capturing and enthralling a new generation of poetry lovers.
William Sieghart has spent most of his adult life promoting poetry and it’s powers. He founded the Forward Prizes for Poetry, the UK’s biggest poetry prizes, in 1991 and soon after, National Poetry Day which is celebrated in the UK every October. William has been dispensing poetry prescriptions since his Poetry Pharmacy began in 2014 listening to thousands of people’s problems and prescribing them a poetic remedy. He has published many books, including The Poetry Pharmacy and The Poetry Pharmacy Returns in the UK and The Poetry Remedy in the US, and 100 Prized Poems – 25 years of the Forward Books.
All are welcome to attend this event, which will be held in the Harris Lecture Theatre at Oriel College.
