For the first time in over half a century, the Ashmolean’s extraordinary collection of Italian
drawings is in the process of re-evaluation and re-cataloguing, thanks to a generous grant from the Getty Foundation.

To speak to that process we are delighted to welcome two of the key figures in the team
undertaking this herculean task, Angelamaria Aceto and Dr Ian Hicks, who will discuss some of the exciting new discoveries that the project has brought to light.

The Ashmolean Graphic Arts Seminar is an open and enjoyable forum for graduate students and members of faculty with an interest in the graphic arts to examine prints and drawings from the Museum’s collections in an informal, discursive environment.

Rather than serving as the subjects of formal presentations, the prints and drawings chosen are introduced by their selectors and then opened to the questions and observations of the group.

The seminar meets at the front entrance to the Ashmolean at 4.45pm and the discussion starts at 5, finishing around 6.30pm. The seminar continues informally, after leaving the museum, over drinks generously subsidised by the Andrew W Mellon Foundation.

Owing to the capacity of the Print Room, each seminar is limited to fifteen participants. Places are allocated in order of replies received. Due to the seminar taking place out of Museum hours, latecomers cannot be admitted.
