Carbon Innovation Programme Event

The University of Oxford has set a target to reduce its carbon emissions by 33% by 2020 (from 2005 baselines). The Carbon Innovation Programme is an opportunity for staff and students from across the University to develop and implement funded projects to help achieve this target.

The Programme was launched last Friday and already we have some fascinating carbon reduction project ideas that teams are working on, for example: * drone roof top thermal imaging, * carbon targets for each department, * piezioelectricity pavements

If you missed the official launch of the programme, don’t worry! You can still get involved and have the opportunity to receive funding to implement your very own carbon reduction project!

Next steps:

* Join the LinkedIn group to connect with fellow Carbon Innovators: tinyurl.com/carboninnovation * If you’re already in a team, register your project with us and keep working with your group on developing your idea: tinyurl.com/carbonprojects * If you aren’t in a team and want to get involved, you can still form your own team and start working on a project. Feel free to post on the LinkedIn group and email us.

Important dates:

October 30th from 5pm – 7pm at the School of Geography and the Environment

* Networking evening: an opportunity to mingle and mix with fellow Carbon Innovators, update everyone on your project, incorporate new members, join a team or even form new teams with new ideas! This is a relaxed event and we will head to the pub afterwards for some extended networking.

November 4th, 12th and 17th

* Mentoring sessions are provided and recommended throughout Michaelmas term to help teams develop their project ideas. Different mentors will be available at different times, so choose your mentor based on your project type: tinyurl.com/carbonmentoring * Register your team for a mentoring session. Each session is up to an hour long and there is one session per team.

December 1st 5pm-7pm – Carbon’s Den

* Sign up to enter the Carbon’s Den and pitch your project to our panel of experts: tinyurl.com/carbonden * Full funding to viable projects! Up to £6mn up for grabs from the Carbon Management fund.

For anyone who didn’t manage to get a full copy of the information packets on Friday, you can download it here: tinyurl.com/carboninfo. This includes guidelines on types of projects, carbon calculations, judging criteria and how the programme works.
