Dr. Volta received his B.Sc.in Medicinal Chemistry and subsequently a Ph.D. in Molecular Pharmacology and Oncology at the University of Ferrara in Italy. As an undergraduate student, Dr. Volta was involved in the study of the pathophysiology of Parkinson’s Disease, especially through behavioral and neurochemical investigations. During these early years, he focused on the investigation of the opioid receptors system in rodent PD-models. Later, during his Ph.D. studies, he became interested in the study and characterization of transgenic animals carrying PD-related genetic modifications. Dr. Volta’s main research interest and passion is to study and better understand how key neuronal proteins interact at the circuit level and what dysfunction(s) may ultimately cause disease in the human brain.
