Oxford Syria Society Event: Toward Transitional Justice in Syria
The Oxford Syria Society invites you to its last panel event of Trinity term: Toward Transitional Justice in Syria. For the past decade, the Syrian people have been subjected to unimaginable atrocities and abuses. In this discussion, we will hear from the Syrian leaders who are at the front on transitional justice issues through different mediums including the law, civil society, and film.

Ibrahim Olabi is a barrister at Guernica 37 and board member at the Syrian British Council with specialised international law knowledge and experience related to the Syrian conflict, and the director of The Syrian Legal Development Programme. Over the past 5 years, Ibrahim worked extensively on international legal issues related to the Syrian conflict, including international humanitarian law, international criminal law and international human rights law.

Amina Khoulani is a human rights activist and a survivor of Syrian prisons. Since her release in 2014, she has campaigned for other prisoners and helped support their families. She is a founding member of “Families for Freedom,” a women-led movement launched in 2017 by families whose loved ones have been detained and disappeared in Syria.

Hamza Al-Kateab is a Syrian doctor, human rights activist and public health advocate. He was featured in and is one of the main “characters” in the award-winning documentary For Sama directed by his wife, Waad al-Kateab
