Tintoretto 500: A Symposium
Please RSVP by Friday 18 October - venetianahg@gmail.com
This symposium has been organised to mark the 500th anniversary of the birth of Jacopo Tintoretto (1518/9-94), one of the greatest painters of the Venetian Renaissance. Tintoretto’s anniversary has been recognised internationally with the organisation of major loan exhibitions of his paintings in Venice and the USA (New York and Washington DC). This is the sole event of its kind to mark his quincentenary in the United Kingdom.

The main aim of the symposium is to give an overview of the current state of play in Tintoretto studies in 2019. A secondary aim is to inaugurate a new UK-based Venetian Art History Group, with a powerful emphasis on ‘the Renaissance’. After the papers, a roundtable session in the late afternoon will discuss future projects for this group.

The sessions will be chaired by Peter Humfrey (Emeritus Professor, University of St Andrews) , Laura Moretti (St Andrews), Gianmario Guidarelli (University of Padua) and Philip Cottrell (University College Dublin)
