Over the last 45 years environmental rights have emerged at national, regional and
international levels to inform, direct and steer the way that decisions relating to
environmental issues are made. This interdisciplinary symposium brings together experts
from the fields of natural science, law, geography, politics and policy to consider the
challenges that are faced in implementing the rights that citizens have to clean air, water
and sanitation, health, a safe climate, and to participate in decision-making. It will also
consider the relationship that environmental rights have with the way that governments
make decisions relating to environmental risks.
