The Politics of Conflict Resolution: Evaluating the establishment of the Loss and Damage Fund from COP26 to COP28

At COP28, the operationalisation of the loss and damage fund was hailed as a major victory for climate justice. However, how was the diplomatic agreement achieved and what lies beneath the veneer of consensus? Through the lens of negotiation analysis, and with insights gained from elite interviews, this dissertation project aims to examine Parties’ underlying expectations of the Fund, while conceptualising a typology of strategies involved for conflict resolution.
