Senior Advisor at International Peace Institute; Visiting Professor at the African Leadership Centre, King’s College, London; former United Nations Under-Secretary General; Headed UN Peace Operations in Burundi, Chad and Central African Republic; Member of both the UN Secretary-General High Level Panel on Peace Operations (HIPPO) and the High Level Advisory Group on Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace and Security, both in 2015. In 2019, he led an independent strategic review of the UN peace operation in the Democratic Republic of Congo (MONUSCO), pursuant to UN Security Council resolution 2463.
