In the turmoil of war, artists have long served as witnesses and interpreters, navigating the space between personal experience and public expression.
This event provides an opportunity to delve into the diverse responses from the artist communities that have emerged since the Israel-Gaza war began, revealing the human stories that lie beneath the headlines. We will hear from the voices of ordinary people—those living through the trauma and its aftermath—rather than relying on the filtered views of mainstream media or political narratives. These expressions reveal the intricate and often conflicting emotional landscape of a nation in crisis and show art’s enduring power to connect, inspire, and provoke even in the darkest of times. This is a chance to understand the personal, often unseen realities of war and its devastating impact on communities.
A reception will be held in the hall one hour before the lecture, featuring a curated display of Zeev Engelmayer’s Daily Postcards along with refreshments.
