Deciphering flood change using large-sample catchment studies
Climate change causes more extreme rainfall, which can intensify river flooding. However, rainfall extremes are not the only factor governing flooding, which is reflected by observed flood trends that often oppose those of extreme rainfall. Here we use large-sample catchment studies to discuss how land-surface conditions curb flood trends at a continental scale.
