The Pleasure of Eating: Functional Neuroimaging of Human Eating and Addictive Behaviours
OUSBMS is delighted to welcome Dr Tony Goldstone, Senior Clinical Research Fellow at Imperial College London, to discuss the science behind “the pleasure of eating” and how functional neuroimaging can be used to reveal the mechanisms which drive food and other addictions.
Dr Goldstone’s research focuses on the neuroendocrinology of obesity and Prader-Willi syndrome, particularly the causes of hyperphagia (excessive eating). He leads the PsychoNeuroEndocrinology Group at Hammersmith Hospital in investigating the neurobiology of the body-brain axis in modifying eating and addictive behaviours in obesity, and smoking and alcohol dependence, to help develop new therapies for these conditions.
He has presented talks at The Royal Society, London, and the Edinburgh Science Festival, and his research has been featured on several BBC and Channel 4 programmes.
