Data Collection in Seconday Schools: Lessons Learned and Shared
Gaining access to, and researching in, schools is quite the task for researchers. In this seminar I will
share how I gained access to the schools involved in my PhD research, as well as the qualitative
methods I used to collect data and centre the experiences of my student and staff participants. The
process of my data collection is hopefully intriguing with the backdrop of the pandemic, and I will
share my research story as well as offer a step-by-step to the ways in which my methods were
adapted from the in-person pilots to the online “real” processes. I will also include some of my data
and discuss how I navigated presenting quotes from my participants in an authentic manner within
my final thesis.
