TGU Talk: "Inflammation and dysmetabolism: denominators in childhood wasting and poor clinical outcomes" by Dr James Njunge
I am a research fellow based at the KEMRI Wellcome Trust Research Programme which is located on the Kenyan Coast. I am a biochemist by training and focus on the relationships between infection, nutrition, mortality and poor growth among children. Key highlights from my previous work include developing a better understanding of mechanisms leading to in patient and post discharge mortality and growth among children in LMIC settings. Currently, my focus is on understanding the drivers and consequences of inflammation in children health – more specifically on growth. I am currently visiting TGU for a collaborative project on environmental enteropathy focussing on microbial drivers of systemic inflammation.
