Join us for a public talk and awards ceremony to end the Social Datathon 2023, a day-long competition to solve a real-world challenge by applying data science and analytics tools, and techniques. The Datathon is hosted at the Jesus College Cheng Kar Shun Digital Hub, in partnership with the Oxford Internet Institute.
The Challenge: Finding Green Skills
To mitigate for the effects of climate change across the globe, a transition towards more environmentally-sustainable modes of production and consumption are essential, for both developing and developed countries. But moving to a low-carbon, resource-efficient economy requires systemic changes to production processes and business models. This ‘greening’ of the economy will require future workforces to develop new skills and responsibilities; to think about their role in the context of an environmentally-sustainable economy.
So how do we define these green skills and responsibilities, and what types of ‘green job’ roles will be needed in the UK? What actions need to be taken to train or reskill people to work in environmentally-focused occupations?
The challenge of the Social Datathon is for participating teams to answer these questions using a unique data set, present their findings to the public at an evening event, and compete to win a grand trophy awarded by a jury of digital policy experts.
If you would like to participate as a team:
Who can participate?
All skill levels and backgrounds are welcome to participate.
