CONVINCE: A clinical trial to compare dialysis treatments – from design to analysis
One in ten people worldwide have chronic kidney disease. Some of them progress to the end stage (ESKD) with kidney function below 10% of the normal value and require a kidney transplant or dialysis. Due to the shortage of donor kidneys, haemodialysis (HD) is the current standard treatment for ESKD patients.
A large international multi-centre clinical trial (CONVINCE) is currently being carried out to prove the superiority of an alternative treatment, haemodiafiltration (HDF), as compared to HD, in terms of mortality and quality of life. This seminar will give an introduction to the CONVINCE trial and review recent developments in the analysis of clinical trials.
Having trained as a mathematician, Mei-Man’s current research interest is statistical methodology in health-related research. Mei-Man has worked on projects involving randomised clinical trials, UK Biobank and medical records (CPRD) from general practitioners in the UK.
