'Trying to Communicate Risk'
For evidence based health care to be effective, it has to be communicated effectively. Shared decision making with informed patients lies at the heart of future clinical practice. So we are all in the business of communicating risk and uncertainty, yet none of us are specifically trained to do it. The speaker is interested in finding solutions which can be applied to lifelong dialogue with real patients at every level of literacy. For all of us, this will require the development of new skill sets and the use of a range of new infographics. Some of these will be illustrated, the time of Florence Nightingale up to April 2016. However, tools in themselves can achieve nothing unless we have the right kind of understanding of the evidence and the ability to match that with the goals of individuals, organisations and society. The presentation will leave plenty of space for the group to discuss the key issues.
