Cambridge Analytica, 5 Years On
The event is in-person only at Said Business School, Park End Street and consists of 2 panels 2-4:30pm with a refreshment break followed by a drinks reception at 4:30.
This event will look both forward and back as 2023 marks five years since the breaking of the Cambridge Analytica scandal, which involved personal data belonging to millions of Facebook users being collected without their consent and being used to assist political campaigns.

Panel 1: Cambridge Analytica, what happened and what have we learned? 14:05-15:10
The first panel, led and chaired by Professor Vicki Nash, Associate Professor, Senior Policy Fellow and Director of the Oxford Internet Institute, will reflect on what happened in 2018 and prior, and what lessons have been learned by regulators, platforms and users. The panel comprises:

Panel 2: Looking Ahead, what are the issues and threats posed by new and emerging technology for democracy and participation? 15:20-16:30
This panel will look at what advances in generative AI and other emerging technologies mean for dealing with issues such as misinformation and disinformation in warfare and in upcoming election campaigns across the globe. Chaired by Steve Wood, former UK Deputy Information Commissioner and Visiting Policy Fellow at the Oxford Internet Institute. Steve will be joined by:
