This is a hybrid event - with the speaker attending in-person and viewable online. Those attending in-person should use the entrance on Jowett Walk, which will be open from 17:50-18:00. Those attending online should email mscggd-admin@qeh.ox.ac.uk for the meeting link.
In our rapidly evolving digital world, the realms of diplomacy and peacebuilding are experiencing transformative changes, guided by advancements in Artificial Intelligence (AI), Virtual Reality (VR), and other emerging technologies. This session will offer an insightful exploration into how these technologies are being integrated into global diplomacy efforts and peace initiatives.

We are delighted to welcome Dr. Martin Waehlisch, the head of the Innovation Team at the United Nations Department of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs (UN DPPA), who will share his perspectives on digital diplomacy. Dr. Waehlisch will draw upon his experiences and the innovative projects at the UN to shed light on the potential of digital tools to enhance diplomatic practices and foster international cooperation. Join us for a thoughtful discussion on the challenges and opportunities presented by digital diplomacy in the quest for global peace.

Dr. Martin Waehlisch has been working in the United Nations for over ten years. He has covered peace processes around the world, including Lebanon, Iraq, Yemen, Kashmir, and other places. He holds a PhD in International Law and has published widely in the area of conflict studies, international relations, and technologies.
