Nuffield Department of Women’s & Reproductive Health, Diversity Week 2020
Rebecca Surender was appointed Oxford’s first Advocate for Equality and Diversity and Pro Vice-Chancellor, in January 2015. The position has responsibility for driving equality, diversity and inclusion policy and initiatives across the University and advancing the university’s commitment to building an inclusive culture for all its staff and students.
Rebecca is also a Senior Research Fellow at the Dept of Social Policy and Intervention where she supervises doctoral students and undertakes research in health policy and social policy in developing countries. She has worked as a consultant and advisor for several multilateral and government agencies including the World Bank, WHO, UNRISD, UK DfID and SA DSD. She was a founding member of the Centre for the Analysis of South African Social Policy at Oxford University, the first UK academic centre to undertake research exclusively on South African social policy and is currently a Visiting Professor at the Institute of Social and Economic Research at Rhodes University, South Africa.
Rebecca is Deputy Principal of Green Templeton College and has been a Governing Body Fellow since 2003.
