Maximising collaborative research between India and the UK: Needs and opportunities in light of India’s new national health policy
If you would like to attend this event, please email premjith.cheruvath@georgeinstitute.ox.ac.uk by Friday 20 October
The Government of India recently launched the National Health Policy 2017, which is aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals and recognises the key role played by research in improving the health and well-being of the India population.
This event provides an opportunity to hear senior healthcare leaders, funders and researchers identify research priorities in light of the new policy; share their experiences of building successful multidisciplinary collaborations; and discuss how best to take advantage of new funding opportunities.
Dr. Shahid Jameel, Chief Executive Officer of the Wellcome Trust/DBT India Alliance will be the keynote speaker for the event. A panel of senior academics will share their expertise and experiences, including Professor Dame Caroline Watkins, Professor of Stroke and Older People’s Care at the University of Central Lancashire; Professor Kara Hanson, Professor of Health Systems Economics at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine; Professor Ajit Lalvani, Chair of Infectious Diseases at Imperial College London; and Professor Maarten De Vos, Director of Oxford’s Centre for Affordable Healthcare Technology.
Other speakers and session chairs include Professor Robyn Norton, Principal Director of The George Institute for Global Health; Professor Stephen Kennedy, Head of the Nuffield Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the University of Oxford; Professor Vivekanand Jha, Executive Director of The George Institute for Global Health India; Professor Daniel Anthony, Professor of Experimental Neuropathology at the University of Oxford; and Dr Siddharth Arora, Scholarship Program Advisor at the Oxford-India Centre for Sustainable Development at Somerville College, University of Oxford.
There will also be an opportunity for up to six researchers to showcase their ongoing collaborative India – UK research. Each speaker will be given a 10-minute slot (five-minute presentation followed by a five-minute discussion). If you would like to make a short presentation on your research, please contact Premjith Cheruvath at premjith.cheruvath@georgeinstitute.ox.ac.uk to request a project information template. The completed template must be returned to Premjith by Tuesday 10 October. Submissions selected for presentation will be notified by Friday 13 October.
The event will be followed by a drinks reception from 17.10 until 19.00.
