Fostering Critical Thinking: Taking some of the Methods of EBM into Schools
Refreshments will be served from 17:00. The seminar will begin at 17:30.
This seminar coincides with the results of two randomised trials of educational strategies to promote critical assessment of treatment claims in Uganda published in the Lancet this week. Principle investigators will present the findings of the Ugandan trials where over 10,000 children in 120 schools tested the effects of the Informed Health Choices primary school resources. The second trial tested the effects of a podcast for the parents of some of these children. Both interventions were designed to promote learning how to apply some key concepts essential for assessing treatment claims. Both were effective, providing much needed evidence that critical thinking has a positive impact.
