AI and Ethics

Stephanie Hare has been working with CognitionX, a start-up providing expertise about Artificial Intelligence (AI), on the topic of AI ethics. She will present the approach she and her CognitionX colleagues have been developing on how to think about AI ethics, including ‘why ethics’, a taxonomy and definitions, and why AI ethics is important for companies to consider as a core concept when acquiring and managing data, building and maintaining customer trust, and anticipating regulatory trends.
Stephanie is a researcher and broadcaster focused on technology, political risk and history. Selected for the BBC Expert Women programme, she contributes regularly to BBC radio and television and has written for The Financial Times, The Herald, Project Syndicate, CNN and The Guardian. Her research showing how EU data protection regulation is forcing US technology companies to change their operating models — and in doing so puts them at risk of violating data protection regulations and cybersecurity laws elsewhere — was selected as a Harvard Business Review case study. Her media work and publications are at www.harebrain.co.
Previously Stephanie has worked as a principal director at Accenture Research, a strategist at Palantir, and as Senior Analyst for Western Europe at Oxford Analytica. She holds a BA in Liberal Arts in Sciences from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and an MSc in Theory and History of International Relations and a PhD in International History, both from the LSE.

All are welcome. Lunch will be provided at 12.15pm.
