Increasing research suggests a role of increased inflammation and of the innate immune system in the pathogenesis of psychiatric disorders. Prof Mondelli will give an overview of studies supporting the presence of increased inflammation in individuals with depression and psychosis and will discuss potential causes and consequences of increased inflammation in these conditions. She will also present studies investigating immune biomarkers as predictors of clinical outcome and the potential role of anti-inflammatory treatments in these conditions.
