Conservatism has played an important role in the Labour Tradition as a movement that tried to rescue a home in the world from the perils of enclosures and the poor law state. In this paper Maurice Glasman will try and retrieve what Labour can learn from conservatism as a political and ethical tradition.

Maurice Glasman (Baron Glasman) is a Senior Lecturer in Political Theory at London Metropolitan University, and a Labour life peer in the House of Lords. He coined the term ‘Blue Labour’, and advocates the recovery by the Labour party of its roots in the political involvement of voluntary associations such as trade unions, churches and football clubs, in pursuit of the national common good.
