Documentary Screening | Amu Darya: River to a Missing Sea
Event: Documentary Screening | Amu Darya: River to a Missing Sea
Date: 28 October 2024
Time: 19:00
Location: Wolfson College Auditorium

Join us for a special screening of Amu Darya: River to a Missing Sea, a powerful documentary that explores the environmental and human stories of the shrinking Amu Darya river. Once flowing into the Aral Sea, this Central Asian river has rapidly desiccated following the intensified irrigation policies of the USSR – turning the downstream Aral Sea from the world’s fourth largest lake into the world’s youngest desert. Through personal stories from Uzbek and Karakalpak communities, this film shares the oral histories of this ancient ecosystem, and the tales of loss, adaptation, and hope that continue to evolve alongside the river to a missing sea.
