This talk is hybrid, it will take place via Zoom and in the Anne Anderson Lecture Theatre. Please contact seminars@wrh.ox.ac.uk if you wish to attend.
Biography:
Professor Shlomo Melmed is co-director of the Pituitary Center, and professor of medicine in the Endocrinology Division, and dean of the medical faculty at Cedars-Sinai in Los Angeles, USA. His research focuses on the molecular pathogenesis of pituitary tumours and pituitary receptor signaling. His group integrates basic science discovery with prospective clinical study of patients with pituitary disease. Fundamental discovery achievements include elucidating intra-pituitary signalling mechanisms underlying excess tumor-derived growth hormone, adrenocorticotrophic hormone, or prolactin secretion; identifying novel subcellular therapeutic targets for drug identification and application in clinical trials; and understanding the relationship between tumour cell proliferation and hormone hypersecretion.
