Translating oral history
How do you approach conducting oral history in another language? How do you transcribe interviews without losing meaning? How do you incorporate foreign slang, dialect, accent, and colloquial language into your work? What do we lose in the process of translation? What do foreign language interviews mean for archiving? Should you conduct oral history interviews in the interviewee’s second language, and what effect does this have on the interview?
