Dr Xiang Zhang will talk about his book project on Kang Youwei’s (1828-1927) writings during his exile in Europe and the impact of the exile on his political ideas about constitutional monarchy and Confucianism as national religion. Dr Xiang Zhang (PhD, Tsinghua 2011) is a Visiting Scholar at the Oxford University China centre and a EU Marie Curie Fellow and Visiting Scholar at gLAWcal + Global Law Initiatives for Sustainable Development from Capital Normal University and Tsinghua University, China, in the framework of the People Program (Marie Curie Actions) of the European Union’s Seventh Framework Programme FP7-PEOPLE-2012-IRSES under REA grant agreement n 317767, Acronym of the Project: LIBEAC (2011-2016) “Liberalism In Between Europe And China”. He was formerly a senior editor at the Nanfang Media Group and author of editorials of the 21st Century Business Herald.
