Changing the rules: enabling research findings to play out using a board game
This seminar explores an alternative, more immersive means of communicating, sharing and exchanging research ideas and findings with different communities, potentially moving beyond articles, reports and slide decks. A research project about the intersection of social class and trustee boards in the social sector conducted in 2023 gave rise to discussions around not only ‘knowledge sharing’, but ‘sentiment sharing’ and ‘experience sharing’. How could the research findings be given a ‘voice’ that provided rich descriptions of what participants had generously shared with us, plus an insight into the ‘system’ they were navigating and articulations of how they felt? Seminar participants will be invited to also know, sense and feel by playing the board game if they wish, and discuss the study, its qualitative design and implications, both methodologically and in the social sector more widely.
