Professor Jia-Yi Li - 'Prion-like pathology propagation in Parkinson’s disease: the present standing'
Status: This talk is in preparation - details may change
Professor Li received his medical degree in China in 1982, and his PhD in neurobiology at Gothenburg University in 1995. After completing postdoctoral training, he accepted a position as associate professor at Wallenberg Neuroscience Center, Lund University in 2001. Since then he has focused on studying pathogenetic mechanisms of neurodegenerative diseases, including Parkinson’s and Huntington’s diseases. He presently holds a permanent faculty position as a professor in neuroscience at Lund University and is the group leader of the Neural Plasticity and Repair Unit. His research group focuses on studying neuronal dysfunction, including synaptopathy and axon degeneration, neuroinflammation and misfolded protein propagation between cells in neurodegeneration, especially with modern imaging technologies. In addition, his group is also interested in seeking for optimal protocols to improve functional integration between transplanted neurons and the host in models of Parkinson disease.
