Sexual Violence in Conflict: Pramila Patten
This talk is free and open to all Oxford and Oxford Brookes students.

Why is sexual violence used as a weapon of war? And what can we do to prevent it? In this talk, Pramila Patten draws on her deep knowledge of these issues and attempts to answer these two questions. She will particularly focus on examples from Africa, where this problem is particularly intractable.

Pramila trained as a barrister at Gray’s Inn in London before founding her own law firm and joining the UN Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women in 2003. She was then appointed as UN Special Representative on Sexual Violence in Conflict in 2017, a position that she continues to hold.

Pramila’s speech will be followed by a Q&A. The location of the talk will be announced as soon as possible.
