This special Norman Heatley lecture, to be presented by Wellcome Trust Director Jeremy Farrar, marks the 75th anniversary of the first human treated with penicillin. The work on its development was done at the Dunn School, and the patient treated at the Radcliffe Infirmary. As the beginning of the antibiotic era, most consider it the defining achievement of 20th century medical research.
Professor Farrar’s background is in tropical infectious diseases and, among other topics, will talk about the global issue of antibiotic resistance.
