Seminar by Dr Tom Cupedo "Stromal – Immune interactions in the multiple myeloma bone marrow"
This seminar will be held in the Kennedy Lecture Theatre with the option to join via Zoom at https://medsci.zoom.us/meeting/register/tJ0kdO-gqTsjG9GKjVn2TQyOSFX5bDk4Vens
Multiple myeloma (MM) is characterized by accumulation of malignant plasma cells in the bone marrow, where tumor cells are in close contact with stromal fibroblasts. Using single cell RNA-sequencing we generated transcriptional maps of MM cells and their stromal and immune microenvironments. This revealed the presence of inflammatory stromal fibroblasts and bone marrow inflammation. I will discuss the identity of the MM stromal cells, their possible impact on MM disease progression and the interactions between inflammatory stromal cells and innate immune cells leading to a pro-tumor bone marrow environment.
