Artificial intelligence (AI) is poised to become one of the most transformative technologies in history. Yet the potential benefits of AI also comes with significant societal risks. To explore how best to govern AI, the United Kingdom will host a major global summit on AI safety from 1-2 November.
The AI Safety Summit seeks to develop international consensus on addressing the risks associated with ‘frontier AI’ models – AI technology even more advanced than what exists today, which could severely threaten public safety and global security.
Ahead of the summit, this panel discussion, co-hosted by the Berkman Klein Center for Internet & Society at Harvard University, will discuss emerging trends in AI and the prospects for achieving meaningful global cooperation on its governance and regulation.
The discussion will be moderated by Dr Brianna Rosen in conversation with Ciaran Martin, Professor of Practice in the Management of Public Organisations at the Blavatnik School of Government; Julie Owono, an affiliate of Harvard’s Berkman Klein Center and an inaugural member of the Meta Oversight Board; Roxana Radu, Associate Professor of Digital Technologies and Public Policy at the Blavatnik School; and Robert Trager, Senior Research Fellow at the Blavatnik School and Co-Director of the Oxford Martin AI Governance Initiative.
